PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR

Applications are invited from interested individuals for the position of Project Co-ordinator for the project on Transforming Harmful Gender Norms to Stop Gender-based Violence (GBV) at the House of Sarah (HoS) located at the MAST, 7 Des Vouex Road, Suva.

The Project Co-ordinator is part of the staff of the House of Sarah under the oversight of the Management Committee through the Executive Director.

1. ABOUT THE PROJECT ON TRANSFORMING HARMFUL GENDER NORMS TO STOP GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE PROJECT

Fiji has some of the highest rates of violence in the world. The National Women’s Health & Safety Studies of 2011 identified that 64% of women in Fiji have experienced sexual or physical violence by an intimate partner. This is double the global average which was 30%. Fiji’s 2007 census recorded that 64 % identified as Christians: 30 % as Hindus and 6 % as Muslims. Faith is a critical area of intervention given the high level of adherents to some religion/faith in Fiji.
The over-arching goal is to contribute towards building a critical mass of faith-based women, men, young people, clergy with a new understanding of God’s vision for human relationships: Making All Things New. “Behold I make all things new. “Revelations 21:5 NKJV. A proper interpretation and understanding of biblical texts is foundational to promoting and advocating loving, peaceful, safe, equal and respectful relationships in family, church and community life.

1. PROJECT COORDINATOR

The Project Coordinator is responsible to the Executive Director for the overall supervision of the project activities. S/he provides support to the team through assessment, planning, monitoring and documentation. S/he will coordinate the schedule, budget, issues and risks of the project ensuring that the project management framework is well-organized and that it runs smoothly. This includes communicating with the gender and theology and gender trainers and HoS administration and finance departments in the organization to make sure everyone is on the same page. The post requires working closely with the team members and the Executive Director.
