The House of Sarah hosted a workshop on raising awareness on the Prevention of Violence against Women & Girls – Changing social norms, in Nanukuloa, Ra from the 19th – 21st October 2021. The House of Sarah acknowledges the partnership and financial support of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Wellington. Thirty participants from the four villages in the Tikina of Saivou gathered for three days. The facilitators were Reverend Tomasi Tarabe and Mrs Tarabe of the Methodist Church and Reverend Mereti Rabonu and Mrs. Kelera Cokanasiga from the House of Sarah. The response was very positive participants requesting that more of these talanoa be held so that they can examine their attitudes and behaviour. The focus was examining the influence of the Bible in shaping attitudes and social norms. On the last day staff from Ministry for Women, Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre and UNWomen held a consultation on the Fiji National Action Plan for the Prevention of Violence against Women and Girls. A big vinaka vakalevu to the Assistant Roko and the Ra Provisional Office for their support that enabled the House of Sarah to be in Nanukuloa.
